Getting Scientific Software Installed: Tools and Best Practices

SESSION: Getting Scientific Software Installed: Tools and Best Practices

EVENT TYPE: Birds of a Feather

TIME: 12:15PM - 1:15PM

SESSION LEADER(S):Kenneth Hoste, Andy Georges

ROOM:708/710/712

ABSTRACT:
We intend to provide a platform for presenting and discussing tools to cope with the ubiquitous problems that come forward when building and installing scientific software, which is known to be a tedious and time consuming task. EasyBuild (http://hpcugent.github.com/easybuild/), an open-source build and installation framework written in Python that allows to implement build procedures of (scientific) software in so-called easyblocks (Python modules that 'plug in' to the EasyBuild framework), will be briefly presented. We would like to bring various experienced members of HPC user support teams and system administrators together for an open discussion and tools and best practices.
